About the role
Client & Account Management
-
Develop a good understanding of your clients’ businesses and be familiar with their full range of products, services and their points of difference. Develop relationships with these clients

Read around and develop your knowledge of your client’s industries and their key competitors so you are able to comment on internal and industry developments

Confidently and concisely present progress reports, project updates and new ideas to clients

Demonstrate your ability to understand and interpret client briefs and ask intelligent questions relating to the brief

Produce detailed project timelines and project schedules

Take the lead on keeping core client materials up-to-date on a monthly basis, including releases, backgrounders, fact sheets

Be responsible for producing detailed cost budgets and reconciling client costs budgets for smaller projects on a regular basis

Be aware of the agreed agency/client handling charges to bought in costs and present a correctly marked-up budget in a client-ready format
Media
-
Manage complicated media enquiries from start to finish on a regular basis, including the publication of approved client statements/comments that you have created

Provide reactive comment in response to media enquiries, following guidance from line managers

Confidently manage journalists, both reactively and proactively. Build a core network of media contacts by proactively nurturing a relationship with relevant journalists

Write first draft press releases and manage the approval process directly with the client

Write media briefing packs and talking points for clients in advance of media interviews

On an ongoing basis, demonstrate your ability to piggyback the news agenda and successfully connect a client issue to a journalist’s agenda and pitch and place suitable news stories for clients

Confidently and successfully pitch stories to national, consumer and trade media on an ongoing basis. Be proactive in coming up with ideas and suggestions to increase client media coverage
Digital

Be social media savvy, on top of current trends with an in-depth understanding of each platform

Ensure full and complete understanding of how to use digital platforms to research and identify online opinion formers / influencers

Subscribe to and follow industry (PR / digital) blogs, news sources and trade press to keep on top of the latest developments and news

Maintain an understanding of the influencer landscape – keeping abreast of the latest digital media influencers relating to your clients and their respective products

Develop an understanding of the role in which social media can play in shaping corporate reputation – advocacy and crisis management

Research, identify and maintain knowledge of the latest digital monitoring tools – in terms of their capability, key attributes and potential benefits to the team / client
Communication

Write documents from start to finish with little guidance (i.e. press releases, reports, statements) that demonstrate your attention to detail, skills in producing written documents for both media and clients with minimal corrections from your line manager

Provide your line manager with regular updates demonstrating your ability to articulate progress and meet all deadlines

Demonstrate the ability to write well-structured persuasive copy in a range of styles including news releases, internal newsletters, online copy, competition copy, etc
New Business

Confidently use PowerPoint to present new ideas and projects to the team and to clients

Produce team credentials to support new business activity and help create new business proposals and presentations
Experience
-
Relevant experience in PR and communications, ideally in an agency environment

A strong track record of delivering results for clients
-
Ideally some exposure to big brand consumer goods, food and drink or FMCG sectors, although specific sector experience is not a deal breaker

An interest in the news and keeping on top of current affairs

A passion for writing, we’d love you to share some of your content with us

A good eye for detail and a strong proof-reader
Educational background
-
Degree with classification of 2:1 or higher
